About the Alusky
The Alusky is a striking designer breed that crosses the Alaskan Malamute with the Siberian Husky. This hybrid combines two ancient Arctic sled dog breeds, resulting in a large, powerful, and stunningly beautiful dog with boundless energy and a friendly disposition.
Aluskies typically have the classic northern spitz appearance with erect triangular ears, a plumed tail, and piercing blue, brown, or heterochromatic eyes. Their thick double coat can be gray, black, white, or red with various markings and patterns. They often have the dramatic facial mask characteristic of both parent breeds.
These dogs are incredibly energetic and were born to run. They require extensive daily exercise — multiple hours of vigorous activity — and are happiest when given a job to do. Aluskies are generally friendly and social with people, including strangers, making them poor guard dogs despite their imposing size. They have a strong pack mentality and usually get along well with other dogs when properly socialized.
Aluskies are intelligent but can be stubborn and independent, inheriting the "what's in it for me?" attitude common in northern breeds. They have a high prey drive and may chase small animals. Their thick coat sheds heavily year-round with intense seasonal blowouts requiring frequent brushing. These dogs are escape artists and need secure, high fencing. Best suited for very active owners in cooler climates who can provide ample space and exercise.
