About the Ausky
The Ausky is an energetic designer breed that crosses the Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) with the Siberian Husky. This hybrid combines the intense work drive of the Australian Cattle Dog with the endurance and friendly nature of the Husky, resulting in an extremely active and intelligent companion.
Auskies typically have a medium build with striking features that may include the Husky's blue eyes and the Australian Cattle Dog's distinctive coat patterns. Their coat can be short to medium length and may show blue or red speckled patterns, solid colors, or Husky markings in gray, black, white, and tan combinations.
These dogs have exceptional energy levels and require extensive daily exercise — 2-3 hours of vigorous activity is not unusual. They excel at activities like running, hiking, agility, and herding trials. Auskies are highly intelligent and need mental stimulation to prevent boredom-related destructive behaviors. They can be stubborn and independent, inheriting the Australian Cattle Dog's strong-willed nature and the Husky's "what's in it for me?" attitude. Consistent, positive training from an experienced owner is essential.
Auskies are typically loyal to their families but may be reserved with strangers. They have strong herding instincts and may nip at heels, especially with children. Their coat sheds moderately to heavily depending on which parent they favor. These dogs need secure fencing as they're escape artists. Best suited for very active, experienced owners with large yards who want a challenging, athletic companion for outdoor adventures.
