We have beautiful boerboel puppies available for adoption at 10 weeks old. Some of them already weigh 28 pounds and come in either brindle or tan colors. The father is a 100% boerboel, tan-colored, and only a little over a year old, weighing over 220 pounds. The mother is all black with brindle and has 30% Italian mastiff. These puppies are great guard dogs and family pets. They are very sweet and intelligent, but they will grow to be extremely large. There is a rehoming fee.
About the Boerboel
The Boerboel is a large, powerful South African Mastiff breed developed by Dutch, German, and Huguenot settlers to protect their homesteads from predators including lions and leopards. The name 'Boerboel' means 'farmer's dog' in Afrikaans, reflecting their role as estate guardians.
Boerboels are massive, muscular dogs with broad heads, strong jaws, and an imposing presence. They have short, dense coats that come in various shades including fawn, red, brindle, and brown. Despite their intimidating appearance, they are known for being calm and confident rather than aggressive. Their athletic build and surprising agility belie their substantial size.
These dogs are intensely loyal to their families and form particularly strong bonds with children in their household, often becoming gentle and protective guardians. Boerboels are intelligent and trainable but require experienced handlers who can establish clear leadership. They are naturally protective and territorial, making early socialization and ongoing training essential.
Boerboels need moderate exercise despite their size, including daily walks and secure yard time. They are not overly energetic but require mental stimulation. Their short coat is easy to maintain with regular brushing. These dogs need secure fencing and are not suitable for apartment living. Best suited for experienced owners with space, Boerboels make devoted family guardians when properly raised and trained.
