We have 3 lovely Chorkie puppies which are now ready for there forever loving homes. They recently turned seven weeks old. Mom is Chorkie, measures about 4 lbs, and father is a full-blooded Yorkie, and weighing about 5 lbs. They are really smart, pretty and lovable. They love children and make perfect family pets,l. About the Chorkie
The Chorkie is a popular designer mixed breed resulting from crossing the Chihuahua with the Yorkshire Terrier. This tiny hybrid combines two of the most popular toy breeds, creating a pint-sized companion with abundant personality, confidence, and charm. Chorkies emerged as part of the designer dog trend in the 1990s and have maintained steady popularity among those seeking a small, portable companion dog with minimal shedding. These little dogs pack tremendous spirit into their diminutive frames and are beloved for their devotion and entertaining antics. Chorkies are very small dogs, typically standing just 6 to 9 inches tall and weighing between 8 and 15 pounds. Their appearance can vary considerably depending on which parent they favor. Some may have the Yorkie's long, silky coat in traditional blue and tan colors, while others may display the Chihuahua's shorter coat in various colors including black, brown, white, or combinations. Many Chorkies fall somewhere in between with a medium-length, soft coat that requires moderate grooming. They typically have large, expressive eyes, erect or semi-erect ears, and the alert, confident expression characteristic of both parent breeds. In terms of personality, Chorkies are typically bold, confident, and utterly devoted to their families. They often don't seem to realize how small they are and may display the classic "big dog in a small body" attitude. From the Chihuahua side, they inherit intense loyalty and a tendency to bond closely with one or two people, sometimes becoming overly protective or possessive. From the Yorkshire Terrier parent, they gain terrier confidence, alertness, and a feisty, sometimes stubborn nature. These dogs are typically affectionate and loving with their families but can be suspicious or even snippy with strangers if not properly socialized. Chorkies are intelligent and can be trained successfully, but they often inherit stubbornness from both parent breeds, which can make training challenging. They respond best to positive reinforcement, patience, and consistency. Early socialization is crucial to prevent excessive suspicion, reactivity, or aggression toward strangers and other dogs. House training can be particularly challenging with Chorkies, as is common with many toy breeds, requiring diligence and patience from their owners. Despite their tiny size, Chorkies have moderate energy levels and enjoy daily walks and play sessions. However, their exercise needs are easily met with indoor play and short outdoor excursions, making them ideal for apartment living. They are sensitive to temperature extremes, requiring protection from cold weather and care in hot conditions. Due to their small, delicate size and tendency to be possessive of their owners, Chorkies are generally not recommended for families with young children. They do best with older children who understand gentle handling or in adult-only households. Chorkies can be quite vocal, inheriting barking tendencies from both parent breeds, so training to manage excessive barking is important. They may also display terrier-like prey drive and can be scrappy with larger dogs despite their size. With proper socialization, training, and lots of love and attention, Chorkies make wonderful companions for those seeking a small, devoted dog with plenty of personality and minimal grooming needs.
