These puppies are a mix of Chihuahua and pug breeds. They are small in size and are currently 9 weeks old, making them ready to be taken home today. They have begun their training on puppy pads and have been dewormed. These puppies are very playful and affectionate, so we invite you to come and meet them in person. About the Chug
The Chug is a designer mixed breed created by crossing the Chihuahua with the Pug. This adorable hybrid combines the spunky, devoted Chihuahua with the charming, comical Pug, resulting in a small companion dog with an entertaining personality and undeniable cuteness. Chugs emerged during the designer dog trend of the late 1990s and early 2000s and have maintained popularity among those seeking a small, affectionate companion. As with all mixed breeds, individual Chugs can vary in appearance and temperament, but most display an endearing blend of characteristics from both parent breeds. Chugs are small dogs, typically standing 6 to 12 inches tall and weighing between 10 and 20 pounds. Their appearance varies considerably depending on which parent they favor. Some may have the Pug's flatter face and curled tail, while others display more of the Chihuahua's longer muzzle and alert expression. Most fall somewhere in between, often having a slightly flattened face (though usually not as extreme as a purebred Pug), large expressive eyes, and a compact, sturdy body. Coat type can range from very short and smooth like a Pug to slightly longer, and colors include fawn, black, brown, cream, or various combinations. Many Chugs have the Pug's characteristic black mask on their face. In terms of temperament, Chugs typically inherit a playful, affectionate, and sometimes stubborn personality. From the Pug side, they often gain a comical, entertaining nature, sociability, and a desire to be the center of attention. From the Chihuahua parent, they inherit loyalty, alertness, and sometimes a tendency to bond intensely with one or two people. Most Chugs are affectionate lap dogs who thrive on human companionship and attention. They typically enjoy meeting new people more than Chihuahuas do, thanks to the Pug's influence, though individual temperaments vary. They can be quite entertaining with their playful antics and expressive faces. Chugs are moderately intelligent but can be challenging to train due to stubbornness inherited from both parent breeds. The Pug's food motivation can be helpful during training, but patience and consistency are essential. Positive reinforcement methods work best, and training sessions should be kept short and engaging. House training can be particularly challenging, as is common with many toy breeds and Pugs. Early socialization helps ensure they develop into well-rounded, confident adults who are comfortable in various situations. These dogs have low to moderate energy levels, requiring daily short walks and play sessions but not extensive exercise. They adapt well to apartment living and are suitable for less active owners. However, owners must be careful not to overfeed Chugs, as they can easily become overweight, inheriting the Pug's tendency toward obesity. Chugs may inherit some of the Pug's brachycephalic (flat-faced) characteristics, which can lead to breathing difficulties, especially in hot weather or during strenuous exercise. They should never be over-exercised in heat and may snore or make other breathing sounds. Chugs can be good with children if properly socialized, though supervision is important due to their small size. They generally get along well with other pets. These dogs don't like being left alone for long periods and can develop separation anxiety. With proper care, attention, and understanding of their unique needs, Chugs make wonderful companions for individuals, couples, or families seeking a small, affectionate, low-exercise dog with plenty of personality.
