About the Cockapoo
The Cockapoo is one of the first and most popular designer dog breeds, created by crossing the Cocker Spaniel (usually American Cocker Spaniel) with the Poodle (typically Miniature or Toy). Dating back to the 1960s, Cockapoos were among the earliest intentional crossbreeds developed to combine the Cocker Spaniel’s gentle, affectionate temperament with the Poodle’s intelligence and low-shedding coat. Decades later, Cockapoos remain one of the most beloved hybrid dogs, cherished for their sweet personalities, adaptability, and minimal shedding. Many owners opt for a short “puppy cut” for easier maintenance. Regular ear cleaning is important due to their floppy ears, which can trap moisture. Cockapoos are generally healthy dogs, though they can inherit issues such as ear infections, hip dysplasia, or eye conditions from their parent breeds. With proper care, their average lifespan of 12 to 15 years makes them loyal and affectionate companions for many years.
