They possess excellent qualities of being great watchdogs and hunting dogs, coming from AKC and UKC Champion lineages. They are located in the South Bay California region. About the Dogo Argentino
The Dogo Argentino, also known as the Argentine Mastiff, is a large, powerful breed developed in Argentina in the 1920s by Dr. Antonio Nores Martínez. Originally bred for big game hunting—particularly wild boar and puma—this muscular, athletic dog was created by crossing several breeds including the Cordoba Fighting Dog, Great Dane, Boxer, and Bull Terrier. Today, Dogos serve as versatile working dogs excelling in hunting, search and rescue, police work, and as devoted family guardians.
Characterized by their striking all-white coat, muscular build, and imposing presence, Dogo Argentinos are powerful athletes with broad chests, strong jaws, and intense expressions. A small dark patch near the eye is acceptable, but the breed standard calls for predominantly white coloring. Their short, smooth coat requires minimal grooming—weekly brushing suffices—though their white coat may show dirt easily. Their skin can be sensitive to sun exposure, requiring protection during extended outdoor activities.
Despite their formidable appearance and hunting heritage, Dogos are remarkably affectionate and loyal with their families, often displaying a gentle, playful side at home. However, they possess strong protective instincts and can be territorial, making early socialization and professional training absolutely essential. They're naturally wary of strangers and other dogs, requiring experienced owners who can provide firm, consistent leadership. Their high prey drive means caution is needed around small pets.
Dogo Argentinos have substantial exercise requirements—at least 60-90 minutes of vigorous daily activity including running, hiking, or structured play. They're intelligent and trainable but can be strong-willed, responding best to confident, experienced handlers using positive reinforcement. While they can be wonderful with children in their own family when properly raised and supervised, their size and strength require careful management. This breed is banned or restricted in several countries and municipalities, so prospective owners must check local regulations.
