We have males and females dutch shepherd puppies available. This litter is for personal use in the family and we just try to re-home the extra puppies. About the Dutch Shepherd
The Dutch Shepherd is a versatile, hardworking herding breed that originated in the Netherlands as an all-purpose farm dog capable of herding sheep, guarding property, pulling carts, and serving as a loyal family companion, and today they excel in police work, search and rescue, and competitive dog sports. This medium to large-sized breed is distinguished by its athletic build, alert expression, and unique brindle coat pattern that comes in three varieties: short-hair, long-hair, and rough-hair (wire-hair), with the short-haired variety being most common. Dutch Shepherds are highly intelligent working dogs with exceptional trainability and an intense desire to work and please their handlers, making them outstanding candidates for advanced obedience, agility, protection sports, and various working roles. Their intelligence comes with high mental and physical stimulation requirements, as these dogs were bred for full days of demanding farm work and can become destructive or develop behavioral problems if under-exercised or mentally unstimulated. Early socialization is crucial for Dutch Shepherds to ensure they develop appropriate responses to new people, animals, and situations, as their natural wariness of strangers and protective instincts can become problematic without proper guidance. When properly trained and socialized, they are affectionate and loyal family members who form deep bonds with their people, though they typically choose one person as their primary handler while remaining devoted to the entire family. These dogs require experienced owners who can provide firm, consistent leadership and structured training, as they are independent thinkers who will challenge boundaries if given the opportunity. Dutch Shepherds have high energy levels and athletic abilities that make them unsuitable for sedentary lifestyles or inactive owners, requiring at least 60-90 minutes of vigorous exercise daily plus mental challenges to maintain their physical and mental health. Their herding instincts may manifest as nipping at heels, especially with children, though this behavior can be redirected through training. The breed's coat requires regular brushing, with rough-haired varieties needing occasional hand-stripping to maintain coat texture, while all varieties shed moderately year-round with heavier seasonal shedding. Health-wise, Dutch Shepherds are generally robust with fewer genetic health issues than many purebreds, though they can be prone to hip dysplasia and inflammatory myopathy. Their versatility and working ability make them exceptional partners for active individuals or families involved in dog sports or working activities, but their demanding nature makes them unsuitable for first-time dog owners or those seeking a low-maintenance pet.
