We need to rehome our baby boy Jack Russell He is AKC registered puppy from Champion bloodlines. Very social and affectionate. He is 8 weeks old and ready to go to his new home. Has had his first vet exam, shots, worming, and a negative fecal test. When he gets older, he'll need his tail docked. Farm visits are welcome. Please contact us at any time to arrange a visit.
About the Jack Russell Terrier
The Jack Russell Terrier is a small but mighty breed originally developed in England during the 19th century by Reverend John Russell for fox hunting purposes. These compact powerhouses were specifically bred to bolt foxes from their dens, requiring tremendous courage, stamina, and determination—traits that remain strongly ingrained in the breed today. Jack Russells are characterized by their boundless energy, sharp intelligence, and fearless attitude that often leads them to take on challenges far beyond their diminutive size. This breed is not for the faint of heart or sedentary owner; they require extensive daily exercise, mental stimulation, and consistent training to channel their intense drive productively. Without adequate outlets for their energy, Jack Russells can become destructive, developing behavioral issues such as excessive barking, digging, and chewing. Their intelligence is both a blessing and a challenge, as they learn quickly but can also be stubborn and willful, requiring an experienced owner who can provide firm, consistent leadership using positive reinforcement methods. Jack Russells are typically predominantly white with tan, black, or brown markings, featuring either smooth, broken, or rough coat types that all require minimal grooming beyond weekly brushing. Despite their small stature, these dogs possess remarkable jumping ability, often clearing fences four to five times their height, necessitating secure, tall fencing to keep them safely contained. Their strong prey drive means they will enthusiastically chase cats, squirrels, and other small animals, making off-leash activities risky in unfenced areas. Jack Russells can be excellent family dogs for households with older children who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs, though their high energy and tendency to nip during play make them less suitable for homes with toddlers. They're naturally suspicious of strangers and make excellent watchdogs, alerting loudly to any perceived threats. Socialization from puppyhood is critical to prevent excessive wariness or aggression toward unfamiliar people and dogs. These terriers can coexist with other dogs, particularly if raised together, though some individuals display same-sex aggression or dog-selectivity. Health-wise, Jack Russells are generally robust, though they can be prone to patellar luxation, deafness (particularly in predominantly white dogs), lens luxation, and Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease. Their lifespan typically ranges from 12 to 16 years, with many individuals remaining active and playful well into their senior years when provided with proper care, nutrition, and veterinary attention.
