I still have two male and one female puppy from our litter that needs a loving home, preferably with adults who are active and have children over the age of 10. These puppies are 9 weeks old, adorable, intelligent, playful, mostly housebroken with the exception of a few accidents, current on their vaccinations, dewormed, and chipped for your convenience so you don't have to spend extra money on them for a while. Norwegian Elkhound is their mother. She is devoted, fun-loving, intelligent, and she enjoys being cuddled and brushed. Siberian husky is their father. You will never meet a husky as sweet and laid-back as him. He is playful but also relaxed. Both breeds require frequent, lengthy walks because they are typically working dogs with medium to high energy levels. About the Norwegian Elkhound
The Norwegian Elkhound is an ancient Scandinavian breed that has hunted alongside Vikings for thousands of years. Archaeological evidence suggests these dogs have existed in Norway for over 6,000 years. Bred to hunt large game including moose (called 'elg' in Norwegian, hence 'elkhound'), bears, and wolves, these hardy dogs worked in harsh Arctic conditions, tracking game through deep snow and rugged terrain.
Medium-sized with a thick, weather-resistant double coat in striking shades of gray with black tips, Norwegian Elkhounds are built for endurance and cold climates. They have a distinctive tightly curled tail carried over the back. These dogs are bold, confident, and independent, traits necessary for hunting dangerous game. They're incredibly loyal to their families and make excellent watchdogs with a tendency to be vocal. Their friendly disposition makes them good family companions, though their independent nature can present training challenges.
Norwegian Elkhounds require significant daily exercise to satisfy their hunting heritage and high energy levels. They excel in activities like hiking, tracking, and agility. Their thick coat sheds heavily, particularly during seasonal changes, requiring regular brushing. These dogs can be reserved with strangers but are generally good with children and other dogs when socialized early. Their independent, sometimes stubborn nature requires patient, consistent training. Best suited for active families who can provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, Norwegian Elkhounds are devoted, hardy companions with a proud history.
