I have a lovely female Pekingese puppy! She is 8 weeks old. Vet checked and vaccinated - vet record included; she is a healthy little girl! As an adult, she will weigh around 12 pounds. She is very social, active, and playful! We are currently working on potty training. She will come with a bed, pet carrier, three toys, a two-section bowl, a small pack of puppy pads, and a small jar containing her food. All items are brand new. The rehoming fee is $1,400.
About the Pekingese
The Pekingese is an ancient toy breed that originated in China over 2,000 years ago, bred exclusively for Chinese royalty in the Imperial Palace. These sacred dogs were so revered that stealing one was punishable by death. According to legend, they were created when Buddha shrank a lion down to dog size. Pekingese remained exclusive to the Chinese Imperial court until the 1860s, when British forces looted the Imperial Palace and brought several dogs back to England.
These small, compact dogs are characterized by their flat faces, large, dark eyes, profuse mane-like coat, and distinctive rolling gait. Their abundant double coat comes in various colors and patterns. Despite their small size, Pekingese carry themselves with regal dignity and possess surprising courage—they're often described as having a 'lion heart.' They're independent, stubborn, and confident, expecting to be treated with the respect befitting their royal heritage.
Pekingese have moderate exercise needs—short walks and indoor play suffice. Their flat faces make them prone to breathing difficulties, especially in hot or humid weather, requiring careful monitoring. Their luxurious coat needs daily brushing to prevent matting and regular cleaning of facial folds. These dogs are affectionate and loyal to their families but can be aloof with strangers. They're not particularly tolerant of rough handling, making them better suited for homes with older, respectful children or adults. Pekingese can be stubborn and challenging to train. Ideal for those seeking a compact, devoted companion with an ancient lineage and dignified personality who don't mind regular grooming.
