I have six puppies, five boys and one girl, that are a mix of Shiba Inu and Husky. The dad is a Husky and the mom is a Shiba Inu. I'm also looking to rehome the mother Shiba Inu, who is two years old. The puppies are eight weeks old. If you want more details, feel free to call or text me. The rehoming fee is $50 for each puppy and $75 for the mom.
About the Shiba Inu
The Shiba Inu is an ancient Japanese breed and the smallest of the six native Japanese spitz-type dogs, originally developed for hunting small game and birds in the mountainous regions of Japan. The breed name translates to 'brushwood dog,' referring either to the terrain where they hunted or their red coat color resembling autumn brushwood.
Shiba Inus are compact, well-muscled dogs with a distinctive fox-like appearance, alert triangular ears, and a confident, spirited expression. Their double coat comes in red, sesame (red with black-tipped hairs), black and tan, or cream, with white markings on the chest, legs, and tail tip called 'urajiro.' They shed heavily twice a year during seasonal coat blows.
Known for their bold, independent personalities, Shibas are often described as cat-like in their cleanliness and aloofness. They're highly intelligent but notoriously stubborn and strong-willed, making training challenging for inexperienced owners. The breed is famous for the 'Shiba scream'—a high-pitched vocalization they produce when unhappy, excited, or being handled in ways they dislike.
Shiba Inus are fiercely loyal to their families but typically reserved or aloof with strangers. They have strong prey drive and can be dog-aggressive, particularly toward same-sex dogs, requiring early and consistent socialization. These independent dogs are escape artists and should never be trusted off-leash in unfenced areas. Despite their small-to-medium size, they have moderate to high energy levels and need daily exercise.
Shibas are meticulous about cleanliness, often cleaning themselves like cats, and are relatively easy to housetrain. However, they're possessive of food, toys, and territory, which can be problematic around young children who don't understand appropriate boundaries. They're best suited for experienced dog owners who appreciate their primitive, independent nature and can provide firm, consistent training while respecting their spirited personality. With proper socialization and training, Shiba Inus make devoted companions for those who understand and embrace their unique temperament.
